Saint Elizabeth Bulto

$595.00

Saint Elizabeth, carved in wood, gessoed and painted, with a tin halo and carrying a basket of fruit in one hand and a book in the other, Spanish Colonial circa early 19th Century. Elizabeth devoted her life to giving to the poor and the sick, and is also known for her Miracle of Roses: as she carried food to give to the poor in her community, she was stopped and asked to reveal what she carried hidden in her mantle (it was suggested that she stole the food), and upon opening her cloak, the food was found to have transformed into roses. She is a patron saint of hospitals and nurses, among many others. 3 x 9 ½ x 3 inches including wooden base.
