This carving has the distinguishing features of St. Francis, the mustache and goatee beard, the skull in one hand and a cross in the other, teaching people to keep death in mind, to focus on doing good things and live with purpose right now, and that there is salvation through the teachings of Jesus.
Made from local wood, gesso, and natural pigments (indigo for Francis’ robe). The base measures 7 × 4 × ¾ inches, the figure is 5 × 13 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches.
