Angak'china or Longhair Kachina

$7,500.00

Longhair Kachina often appears in the Spring Dances. These kachinas have long “beards” made of pony hair and feathers representing rainfall falling beneath a rainbow, and they sing songs to bring rain and flowers to the Hopi people.

This very special doll dates from around 1900, 8 inches tall, is made of cottonwood root (very light) and is painted with natural mineral pigments, green, white, black and red. Still present is the string across its face for the feathers which would hang across the chest, and part of the string around its neck meant for hanging the doll on the wall.

From the estate of the American artist Max Weber.
