Alosaka is a Chief Katsina, the deity of germination who oversees the success of the coming year’s crops. He is a master of the Bean Dance, the beginning of the ceremonial season.

Known as Two-Pronged kachina, this doll has two curved horns on its head, and here also wears an elaborate bustle representing the Rainbow and the Sun. In his hands he carries bean sprouts give to the women and children a blessing for the germination of seeds, their continued growth and for good fortune for the harvests.

This doll was acquired in Taos from the RC Gorman estate in 2010. Made circa 1970, of cottonwood, feathers, paint and string, 13 ¾ inches tall.
