Crow Mother Kachina

$750.00

Angwusnasomtaq, or Crow Mother, Kachina, is a spirit who represents wisdom and leadership—a Chief Kachina. At the dances she moves quietly and sings softly, but also has a powerful role in the initiation ceremonies in the kivas.

Acquired in the 1960s at the Keams Canyon Trading Post, Crow Mother wears a mask with large upside down black triangles on the face, with two horns and large crows’ wings attached to the sides of the head. The ruff at the neck represents fur, and she is covered with a white shawl, and wears boots with “beaded” crosses at the heels. This doll has an elegant presence. Circa 1950s, made with cottonwood, paint, feathers and twine, 8 ¾ inches tall.
