The Hopi Pahlik Mana, or Butterfly Maiden, Kachina wears a large elaborate tablita on her head chock full of images of rain, rainbows, storms and corn, and her chin is painted with colors of the rainbow. Her purpose is, like a butterfly, to pollinate the flowers, and to pray for rain.

She is carved from cottonwood with a thin masonite or cardboard tablita. she carries feathers In her hand, a painted felt turquoise necklace with jacklas, feathers on her headpiece and a long felt “ribbon” down her back, circa 1960, 15 inches tall.
