Hopi Cloud Kachina (Omau-u)

$395.00

The Hopi Cloud kachina has rain and clouds painted on his face, three multicolored semi-circular tabs above the head piece which represent storm clouds; the step-shaped ear pieces are also symbols for clouds—so this kachina is for summer rain. Rain, snow and all forms of moisture are, of course, essential for survival, and prayed for at the dances.

The Cloud Kachina has rarely been seen at the ceremonies since the early 20th Century. Carved from cottonwood with paint, feathers and string, 11 ¼ inches tall.
