Hopi Wolf Kachina

$795.00

This Hopi Wolf kachina doll is wearing the typical costume of the Wolf kachina—a twisted red yarn kilt, dotted leggings and wristlets, embellished boots, painted rattles, shells, sequins, colorful feathers—and he carries a large stick which symbolizes trees and bushes from which he spies on his prey: the antelope and deer. The Wolf kachina often appears at the deer dance ceremonies, causing the deer and antelope to be wary of the predator. The Hopis are grateful to the wolf for his knowledge of hunting the game animals. Circa 1950s, 11 ½ inches tall
