A Squirrel Kachina (Laqan) made in the“Old Style” or “Traditional Style”, carved in the way early kachinas were made, with simple shapes and natural pigments, helping to keep Hopi traditions alive. Carvers each have distinctive styles, and this cradle doll was made by Darwyn Puhuyaoma. The Squirrel’s mask has a toothy snout, long eyes and stripes on its face; adorned with beautiful clusters of feathers on the sides of the head and topped with tufted squirrel ear feathers. Circa late 1990s, made of cottonwood, paint, feathers and string, 11 inches tall.
