Sio Hemis Kachina

$1,800.00

Borrowed from the Zuni people, the Sio Hemis Kachina is very similar to the Hopi Hemis Kachina—at Hopi, the main difference is in the decorations on the beautiful grand tablita headdresses—the Sio headdress shows dragonflies, rainbows, the sun, corn flowers, and more—the face is divided in half, blue and orange. The Hemis Kachinas are leaders of the last dance of the summer, leading the spirits to their homes, and ensuring a bountiful harvest. This doll is circa early 1940s, made of carved cottonwood, thin flat board, pigment, feathers and string, 14 inches tall including feathers.
