Exquisite small seed pot circa 1970s by Margaret (1936 - 2018) and Luther (1911 - 1987) Gutierrez, from Santa Clara Pueblo—the sister and brother team fashioned this seed pot with design symbols of the four directions. The rim is painted with the traditional red clay slip denoting a prayer for the safekeeping of the pot itself. The kachina-like figures each hold an arrow in both hands; alternating around the circumference, two are wearing tabitas upon their heads and the other two appear to be stylized Koshari “clowns”. Margaret would have made the pottery pieces and Luther would have painted the traditional designs on it. 2 ½ inches in diameter and 2 ½ inches tall.
