Nellie Bica (1905 - 1998) learned the art of making pottery in her teens at Zuni Pueblo. She made many traditional forms of Zuni pottery but was noted for her charming and whimsical owl figures. This is an early piece: a small polychrome owl with red clay, the features of the bird painted in black upon white slip. Circa 1917 – 1925, 3 ⅛ inches tall.
