$175.00

A colorful pair of pottery candlesticks from Tesuque Pueblo decorated with cloud and bird motifs. From the 1930s and onward, but most notably in th 1970s, pottery was made in this style to sell inexpensively for the tourist trade. The pottery was coated with a pale clay slip and fired, then painted with brightly colored poster paints after the firings. The colors are not stable, but can become very beautiful as they fade with wear. 3 ¾ inches in diameter at the base, and 3 ¾ inches tall. Can you imagine these with orange or yellow tapers?
